This topic has been on my mind for a very long time. It’s time that I finally share my thoughts and start the discussion.
I often see people advocating for #insulin4all specifically, and only, referring to type 1 diabetes.
We should be advocating for #insulin4all, NOT insulin for #t1d.
We need to change the language that we use. Diabetes comes in many forms, and all types matter.
Every person with diabetes deserves access to affordable insulin.
So let’s work on changing our language to be more inclusive.
By further stigmatizing other forms of diabetes (type 2), we are doing a MAJOR disservice to our cause. Society already believes that diabetes is mostly a lifestyle disease and that it is simple to reverse. But we all know that’s BS.
So don’t further stigmatize another form of diabetes by feeling like you have to distinguish what type you have. They all suck. And it only solidifies society’s view of diabetes.
I used to be the person that always felt like I had to separate myself and say what type I have. Now, I make sure to educate on ALL types of diabetes because it’s all much more complex than most are willing to accept. And by doing this, maybe it will help erase the stigma that society has regarding #diabetes.
If we can shift the stigma, maybe society would be more receptive to the idea of affordable insulin.

Fantastic. I totally agree with you. Well said xx

Very true, I think this refers to insulin dependent.
It is annoying how Diabetes has types, and not different names for the different diseases. Also annoying how some types just fall through the cracks and there is no advocacy for them!
